Get The Look || Mary McDonnell

On Monday, my mum and I were spontaneously wandering around the shops and took a duck into Peacocks just to have a wee nosey at their sale. I tend to gravitate towards the shoe section (hola, my fellow shoe-aholics!) and this day was no different. I looked up and down the shelves and turned a corner and came face-to-shoe with the pumps that would inspire this entire post. As soon as my eyes hit those shoes in the store, this blog post started to write itself and demand to be posted as this week's Fandom Friday post.

I have always wanted to do a 'Get The Look' for the outfit that Mary McDonnell wore to the Variety & Women In Film Pre-Emmy Event in 2013 as it's so utterly classy and flawlessly elegant. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it a couple of months ago. All of the little details just came together to create such a breathtaking look. The peplum of the top highlights Mary's subtle curves whilst giving that little bit extra as the skirt just contours perfectly. What's more, the belt shows off her narrow waist. The embossed details of the outfit add that 'Wow' factor, I'm almost obsessed with the design. And the shoes. Don't get me started on the shoes.  So shiny! That is all. I'm less than articulate when it comes to those babies!

Top || Peplum Top || H&M - £19.99

Wait? No embossed stuff? You loved the embossed detailing, remember? Whenever I would find an embossed top, for the life of me, I couldn't find a matching skirt! If I found the skirt, the top would appear a few months later when the skirt had been discontinued. They were like Batman and Bruce Wayne - never in the same place at the same time. What? Yes. It was that much a pain in the posterior to find coordinating things. As a result, I decided to go down a more universal route and search for plain and slightly textured articles that would suit all occasions. Fortunately H&M had both the skirt and top in at the same time. Can I get a 'Hallelujah!'?

I hmm and haaa'd about whether or not to include 'The Make-Up I Would Use' but then I asked myself the question, why not? It is a very similar look from my Christmas Style post for Mary || here || but with some slight differences. You don't have to use these products that I've included here, these are what I own and what I would use. Feel free to substitute anything that you think would achieve a similar effect. I have chosen the above photograph as a reference point and only that even though some angles, which include flash photography, show differences. Also, shades for foundation and concealer suit my skin tone and you can use your own shades.

  3. OMG, don't get me started on shoes! I have such a secret hankering for them, as I must wear 'practical' shoes 99% of the time. :-) I love what you're doing here--the attention to detail and the specifics to follow are simply fantastic! Looking forward to future posts. :-)

    1. Riiiiiiiight?! Aren't they spectacular!! I have to wear 'practical' shoes for work too but when I leave work then it's WWMW - What Would Mary Wear, haha. I'm so glad that you're loving these type of posts. I do admit that I do get self-conscious about them but I love making them and they're so much fun to do. If you have any requests, feel free to drop me a line at any time, Sarah.
