The Morning After The Night Before

Monday, 29 February 2016

I am not a morning person. I never have been and I probably won't ever become one. I love my bed too much. I especially love my bed when I've been out the night before and I've had a feeeeeew too many drinks. We've all been there. Don't deny it. Why would I want to venture beyond the duvet when I'm so snug and comfortable in bed? But with a hangover, it's takes more persuading to get up. Here are my hangover helpers and how I survive.

What I Think About Valentine's Day

Sunday, 14 February 2016

Today, February 14th, is the day when people in love are suddenly pressured to tell and show their significant other how much they love them by showering them with chocolates, teddies, flowers and a romantic meal for two and whatever else have you. Retail companies have captilised on this money making phenomenon with aisles packed with teddies, chocolates, gift sets and copious amounts of flowers on sale by the bucket load. God help you if you forget.

TUTORIAL || Subtle First Date Appropriate Makeup

Saturday, 13 February 2016

I went for dinner and drinks with a bloke the other week and thought that I would film how I decided to do  my makeup that day (including my hair). It's a very soft makeup look. I wanted to look put together without looking too overdone. I wanted to look nice without trying too hard (but had to do a lot of steps to get to this). It's perfect for a first day of any situation; dinner, coffee or the cinema. I hope you like it.

What's In My Not-So-Z Eyeshadow Palette

Monday, 8 February 2016

I've always drooled over the Z-Palettes that people share all over social media and YouTube and been envious of the single eyeshadows that they so lovingly place in perfect order. For ages I didn't have much of a collection of eyeshadow singles. I had six MAC eyeshadows. Five pans and one potted one. Four were in a palette, one was still in its packaging six months later and the other one was naturally in its pot. But when I bought Makeup Geek shadows, I knew that I needed some kind of palette for them all. So, I found one in the most unlikely of places.

You're Never Too Old For...

Friday, 5 February 2016

Anything. You're never too old for anything. Except for maybe assault courses for toddlers and you can't fit anywhere. That may be where you'll have to draw the line. Maybe. But back to what this post is about... Have you ever been told, 'You're too old to be liking that'? or 'You still like that?'? I have had people say that to me so many times and they've said it with that look on their faces. You know the look. The condescending one that basically says that they're more grown up than you and that they're basically better than you because they've 'grown out' of Disney or comic books or video games. Well, good for them. But I have no intention of growing out of those things. You wanna know why?

Because, I don't want to.

I am currently twenty-seven-years-old, with no children or boyfriend/husband, and I love nothing more than curling up in a blanket with a cup of tea (or a glass of wine) and watching a good old Disney movie - new movies and old school movies alike - or with my Looney Tunes DVD boxet. I have a vast amount of them on DVD (oldies too on VHS) and I find no shame in them whatsoever. I love Disney movies and was raised on Looney Tunes and Hanna Barbera cartoons. I love watching them. They're funny. They're witty. Plus, truth be told, I'm at an old where I actually understand that jokes that are being made in them. Some of the humour is very complex. Yes, I laughed when I was little but I had no idea what I was laughing at until now. It's crazy to think that I'm only grasping the punchline 20 or thirty years after it was made. It's timeless and I love it.

I also love to look at the artistry of them. I'm constantly blown away by their attention to detail on large and small landscapes. The animators that they have working for them are truly gifted artists and I find myself appreciating everything a lot more as an adult.

You will never be too old to appreciate a good movie, even if it is animated with a talking dog. My mother loves movies with a talking dog in it. I will never ever tell her that she's 'too old' to be watching it. As long as it makes her happy and it brings some light to her day, what does it matter to me that it was made for a young demographic? As long as it makes her happy.

The same goes for me and Disney, Looney Tunes or Marvel cartoons. If it makes me happy, it shouldn't matter to anyone else if I love it. At the end of the day, if it brings me happiness and I find it entertaining, I will never be too old for anything. I may just be drinking wine instead of juice when I'm watching it.

Have you ever been told that you're 'too old' to enjoy something? If they do, you don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

January Favourites // 2016

Wednesday, 3 February 2016

January 2016 has been a bit of a roller-coaster month. There were so many heartbreaks throughout the month with the loss of so many legends in music, film, television and broadcasting. There was a time when I was terrified to even open social media for fear of who would have been taken away so soon. Even in local news, it was heartbreaking to see so many young deaths. However, with the dark there was the light in January: I was trained up on a new department at work and I'm much happier than I was. I miss the craic from my old team but I couldn't handle it any longer - the crap outweighed the craic. So with that, there have been a few beauty bits, television shows and other bits and bobs that I loved during the first month of 2016.

My Essentials for Natural Beauty

Monday, 1 February 2016

What are the essentials? Essential, what? Essential beauty products? Essential skincare products? Handbag essentials? Essential essentials? There can be a lot of essentials out to there to choose from. What may be essential to one person may not be an essential to another. But what are my essentials for natural beauty? What would I consider my natural beauty though? When I think of natural beauty, I think of the parts that I love most about my face. For me that includes my freckles, my pale skin and my eye colour. Those are the parts that I tend to highlight in my beauty routine every time, take care of the most and the parts that make me, well, me. So how would I highlight those without concealing anything?
