Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit

Wednesday, 25 March 2015

When dipping that toe into the colossal pond that is the beauty world, it can be terrifying and I mean terrifying. There are so many brands out there that range from the budget friendly to the mortgage breaking ones. There are so many different products that do so many different things. Primers. Foundations. Powder Foundations. Powders. Blushers. Bronzers. And that's just to name the a few of the basics! Where do you even start to begin? How do you know which is best for you? Do you take your time and go into that pond one bit at a time or just dive straight in and hope for the best? I'm here to share what I've learnt from how I started my own makeup collection and from the copious amount of YouTube channels that I watched before taking my first step

Five Beauty Tips That Changed My Life

Monday, 23 March 2015

I don't know if any of you know this but I only became interested in makeup in May of 2014. I've only been interested in makeup for less than a year and in that time I have watched an insane amount of YouTube videos from beauty gurus and read a copious amount of blog posts that deal with makeup tips & tricks. I watched a lot of videos before I even bought my first products for a collection and watched for instructions on how to use this and that so that I could see if I was comfortable enough to use it. I felt like Miss Congeniality when Gracie is left to fend for herself at the pageant and is rifling through the products and wondering which one is lipstick. In all the time that I've come up with my own techniques that work for me and I've going to share my top 5 of the moment.

TUTORIAL || Storm [Marvel] Inspired Makeup Look

Friday, 20 March 2015

Holy crap, guys! This is my one hundredth post on this blog! I can't quite believe that I've already made it to 100 posts! I'm going to say the cliché thing of that it feels like yesterday I was at only 20 posts and wondering what the hell was I doing but here I am publishing my 100th post! Wowza! To celebrate, I thought that I would bring you all something totally different to what I've been doing. It's still Fandom Friday but it's a makeup look inspired by my favourite of the X-Men, Storm.

St. Patrick's Day in Downpatrick

Wednesday, 18 March 2015

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day here in Ireland and all across the country, and the globe apparently, there were celebrations and parades. I went to the parade held in Downpatrick, County Down. For those of you that don't know, Downpatrick is named after St. Patrick. It's Gaelic name is Dún Pádraig - Patrick's Stronghold as the stronghold was once on Mound of Down which sits just outside the town overlooking and protecting what had been the Ancient City of Down (the county in Ireland). Additionally, Downpatrick is said to be the burial place of St. Patrick according to the legend.

Simple Soda Bread Recipe Perfect For St. Patrick's Day

Monday, 16 March 2015

It is Saint Patrick's Day tomorrow! It is one of my favourite days of the year as I get to spend it celebrating my patron saint... Who am I kidding? It's a day where I get time and a half pay and I freeze my backside off sitting on a stone wall watching the parade with my Mum and I get to eat junk food. That's my favourite part of the day. I've never been one to get drunk like everyone believes March 17th is about. So with that, I've decided to share one of my favourite recipes for one of my favourite Irish foods, Soda Bread.

TUTORIAL || Olivia Mell [The Cherry Orchard]

Friday, 13 March 2015

Since I did a tutorial for a look inspired by Mary McDonnell's makeup from the promotional photographs for the production of The Cherry Orchard, I thought that it might be fun to bring you a tutorial for her daughter's makeup from it. Olivia Mell was in the same production and funnily enough acted as Mary's character's daughter, Anya. Mother and daughter played mother and daughter. I'm beyond in love about how cute that is. On the final day of The Cherry Orchard's run, Olivia shared a selfie on her Facebook page showing her stage makeup and I just had to jump at the chance to try and replicate it using products, brushes included, that you can find in the drugstore.

Get Ready With Me [With Glasses] || Theatre Night

Wednesday, 11 March 2015

This is new! I thought that it would fun to show you what I did with my makeup when I was getting ready on Monday night to go out. My family and I were going to Belfast to watch Give My Head Peace at the Grand Opera House. I was the designated driver for this night and that meant that I was wearing my glasses but that didn't stop me from going full-on and having fun with my makeup. So here is what I used and what I did to achieve this look.

Face Of The Day 3 || featuring Glasses

Monday, 9 March 2015

As you may or may not know, I wear glasses. Yet whenever I'm filming a tutorial or taking a photograph, my glasses are off usually hidden behind my back or my contact lenses are in. But on an everyday basis, I usually wear my glasses for work and for driving because my lenses don't sit properly on one of my eyes. Fail. My optician said that they can't fix that so I have to deal with a bit of blurriness when trying to read things in the distance. Greeeeeat. Not! Anyway, here is my makeup for when I'm going out and about in the car and I need my glasses.

TUTORIAL || Mary McDonnell [The Cherry Orchard]

Sunday, 8 March 2015

Surprise! A post on a Sunday? Yes, dear friends, a post on a Sunday. I thought that I would surprise you all with a little makeup tutorial today. This has been a makeup tutorial that I have been wanting to do for weeks but one that I shamefully haven't gotten around to doing until now. Though, the timing couldn't be better. The theatrical run of The Cherry Orchard at the People's Light is coming to a close today in Pennsylvania *sad sigh*. Being in Northern Ireland, I never got the opportunity to go and see it and I would have gone to see it in a heartbeat because it stars someone who has been featured on this blog several times, Mary McDonnell. Plus David Strathairn (one of my favourite actors) and Mary's daughter, Olivia Mell. So to mark the final curtain call for this wonderful production, I thought that I would share with you my take on the makeup that Mary had for the promotional photography for this play.

Get the Look || Helen Magnus [Sanctuary]

Friday, 6 March 2015

Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog and to this week's Fandom Friday post! This post had been drafted for a while because some parts were either low in stock or sold out. I randomly checked back and, hallelujah, the main piece was back in stock! I spied the jacket and knew that I just had to do an outfit post around it. As a result, this Get The Look post for Helen Magnus' promotional picture outfit from season 1 of Sanctuary was born.

My Make-Up Collection And Storage

Wednesday, 4 March 2015

If somebody had've told me a year ago that I would have a makeup collection, I would've laughed. I wasn't remotely interested in makeup this time last year and I certainly never would've imagined having a collection like the one that I do now. I maybe had a mascara that was four-years-old and a powder foundation from when my puppy accidentally scrabbed my face and some makeup hidden away somewhere from when I used to do amateur musicals. But here I am, with a makeup collection.
