TUTORIAL || Anna Kendrick [Glamour Magazine] Inspired Makeup Look

Friday, 27 January 2017

The second that I saw Anna Kendrick's makeup on the cover on Glamour's most recent issue, I knew that I wanted to recreate the look. I loved the purple smokey eye with the shimmering lower lashline, the pink cheeks and the blush nude lips.

I just had to recreate it as only I can (*cough*attempt*cough*)

This is actually the second attempt at filming this look. When I was editing the original footage, the vast majority of the footage was out of focus. My auto-focus was going hay-wire. I had no idea what was wrong with it or what it thought it was doing. I hated it and was not happy with it at all. The only thing to do was to film it again. It's still not great but it was an incredible improvement. I'll be thankful for small miracles.

I hope you like it. Huge girl crush on Anna Kendrick.

TUTORIAL || BB-8 [Star Wars] Inspired Makeup Look

Saturday, 21 January 2017

Would you believe that this look was inspired by a cushion? For my birthday, my best-friend commissioned a custom-made BB-8 cushion. It takes pride of place on my bed. I was just sitting in my room during the week, struggling to get inspired for a makeup look and my eyes settled on the cushion and hey presto!

I love how this look turned out and how it evolved as I worked on it. Those are my favourites looks; the ones where I start off with an idea in my head and then develop it as I go along. Those are the best. I hope you like the look as much as I do.

TUTORIAL || Star Trek 'Gold Shirt' Steampunk-Ish Inspired Makeup Look

Friday, 13 January 2017

I wouldn't be me without some post or makeup look being connected to Star Trek in some way or another. This look was largely inspired by the Gold Shirt, particularly, the black jumpsuit with the gold shoulders in the TNG/VOY era.

I was inspired to create this look after biting the bullet and purchasing one of the Urban Decay Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner - namely the eyeliner in 'Goldrush'.

After swatching it several times, and building up my excitement at using such gorgeous gold goodness, I was bitterly disappointed with it in full action. I will probably reserve all of my thoughts on this product for another post. Needless to say, the consistancy of this eyeliner resulted in it transferring to my crease, thus turning a relatively simple look into something steampunk-esque.

Perhaps I should do a Steampunk Star Trek series.... what do you think?

Dear Student-Me

Since my father died at the beginning of November last year and with my job becoming ever more soul-destroying (yes, dear reader, blogging and making videos is not my job), I have been doing a lot of soul-searching. Where did it all go wrong? To answer that question, I would have to answer, when was it ever right? I did everything that I was supposed to do: I listened to my teachers, I studied, I got good grades, I went to university and left with a 2:1 Joint Honours Bachelors of Arts Degree. And yet, I've been working in a supermarket for the past 6 years with a degree in my pocket that I feel is worthless and a shocking £20k amount worth of debt.

There have been many a night where I ask myself what could I do with my degree since my high school marketed my subjects are the most 'employable' as they 'open doors'. The only door that I feel was opened to me was my colleague entrance because I can read English (hardly a talent because it's my native language and even now that seems like a debatable requirement). So what would I tell my 18-year-old self before (and during) what were supposed to be the 'greatest years of my life'?

I know that I've touched on my time at univeristy previously in this post so it's a little round-up and a few new points..

TUTORIAL || Morphe 'Make A Statement' Eyeliner

Thursday, 12 January 2017

My first video in two months is finally here. YAY!

I took time out from blogging and YouTube after the death of my Dad. He took ill the day that I posted my last video and then passed away five days later. I had aimed to post again around Christmas and New Year's but decided to give myself that time to myself.

So, I did a little retail therapy during that time and bought some of the newly landed Morphe pressed pigments on Beauty Bay. I loved the pigment 'Make A Statement' so much that I wore it on Christmas Eve-Eve to work. I had to get into the Christmas spirit at some point there. I loved how it turned out and received a number of compliments on how it really made my eye colour pop.

I also apologise profusely for the awful voice-over. It was the first time that I did a voice-over in two months and I was nervous. Could you tell?

Wednesday, 11 January 2017

Well, I survived Two-Thousand And Sixteen. It felt like the year would never end when it had just begun. A lot happened last year. A lot of good and a lot of bad. I lost my father on November 2nd, and the last two months were a numb blur. I can't remember a lot from those months and I barely had any desire to return to any of my hobbies and my heart was broken by the sudden passing of Carrie Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds (Bobbi Adler, forever). Despite that mountain of loss and darkness, I decided to put that aside and to put 2016 in retrospect and document what was good about it for me.
